Privacy and local data

Tallydial has no accounts and no backend. Your tasks, time entries and settings are saved in your browser, on your device, and the app never sends them to us or to anyone else. This page explains what is stored, what is not, and what that means for you. New to the app? Read the Pomodoro Technique guide.

What is stored on your device

Everything you enter is saved in your browser's local storage, under a single key. That covers your projects and tasks (names, descriptions and daily goals), your time entries (task, start, end and how each was recorded), your timer settings and alert preferences, the state of the timer if it is running, and a note of which daily goal alerts have already fired. Tabs of the same browser stay in sync through that storage.

Tallydial sets no cookies of its own and uses no other browser database for your data.

What leaves your browser

Nothing you enter. There is no backend and no account, and the app contains no code that uploads your tasks, time entries or settings anywhere. Your data cannot be seen, restored or deleted from our side, because we never have a copy.

Page-view statistics

The site uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. According to Vercel's documentation it uses no cookies: visitors are told apart by a hash created from the incoming request, and that is discarded after 24 hours. Each recorded page view can include the time, the page address, the referrer, the visitor's country, region and city, and the device type, operating system and browser. In the Day log the address can include the date you are looking at.

Your tasks, time entries and settings are not part of this, because the app never sends them. See Vercel's description for the details on their side.

Hosting and fonts

Tallydial is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel can keep standard server logs of the requests it receives, such as your IP address and the page you asked for. This is part of serving any website and not something the app adds.

The fonts are downloaded when the site is built and served from the same address as the app, so your browser does not contact Google to display them.

Offline use

To work without a connection, the site installs a service worker that keeps copies of the app's own pages and static files: scripts, styles, fonts and icons. Your data is not part of that cache; it stays in local storage. The service worker only runs in the production site.

Sound and notifications

The end-of-session and daily goal chimes are generated in your browser. Desktop notifications (separate switches for session ends and daily goals) are off until you switch them on in Settings, and only after you allow them in your browser's permission prompt. They are created on your device when a session ends or a daily goal is reached; no push server is involved.

What this means for you

Your data lives in one browser on one device. A different browser, browser profile or device starts empty, and there is no sync. Clearing site data for Tallydial deletes your data, and a private window normally discards it when the window closes. Nobody, including us, can recover it for you. If the browser's storage is full or blocked, the app shows a warning that your changes are not being saved.

To keep a copy, use Export backup (JSON) in Settings. It downloads a file with all your data, saved wherever your browser keeps downloads, so treat it as private. Import backup replaces your current tasks, time entries and settings with the file's contents after you confirm, and the timer comes back idle. Delete all data clears everything after a confirmation and cannot be undone.
